A national property and housing firm which tackles the housing shortage and homelessness crisis has just opened a new supported housing unit in Romford.
National Housing Group has just signed a 20-year social housing lease with health and social care charity Social Interest Group for a residential, therapeutic unit.
The supported housing property contains 25 units, complete with on-site support workers and treatment rooms which will enable the residents, once homeless or rough sleeping to rehabilitate and integrate back into society after a 12 to 18 month stay in the facility.
Throughout their stay, residents will work with Social Interest Group to source suitable, long-term housing solutions for their futures.
Gill Arukpe, group CEO at Social Interest Group said: “I am extremely excited about the launch of this innovative supported housing pilot and the partnership that we are entering into.
“I am especially heartened by the way a strong partnership approach and co-production of support was developed by involving several services to help deliver the wraparound care many homeless people and rough sleepers will need, while they stay and recover in our new service.”
Gill continued: “I believe this is a true flagship opportunity to show how supported housing can be delivered effectively in the future for others to follow.”
National Housing Group and Social Interest Group have worked collaboratively to get this project off the ground in Romford.
Stephen Wasserman, National Housing Group’s founder and CEO said: “I am immensely proud of getting this project over the line and signing the lease on Farringdon Lodge. The team has worked tirelessly to retrofit the property, converting 25 units to a high quality, with an eco-focus.”
NHG has ensured that tenant wellbeing, mobility, connectivity and energy have all been considered throughout. 52 solar panels have been installed alongside energy-efficient appliances, insulation and other sustainable refurbishments to minimise residents’ risk of fuel poverty.
Stephen said: “We have fitted out the property with bedrooms, kitchenettes and separate bathrooms, all of which are well over the minimum required sizing for social housing units.
“Everyone at NHG is really excited to be helping support individuals who need a place they can call home.”
National Housing Group works with housing associations, councils and charities, such as Social Interest Group, nationwide to provide high quality accommodation to vulnerable adults who are often neglected and can find it challenging to secure a property.
